The rising cost of pharmaceuticals is of concern for all plan sponsors.  Much of the cost increase can be attributed to specialty pharmaceuticals, which make up a large percentage of recently approved drugs and an even larger percentage of drugs that are likely to be approved in the next few years. These drugs can cost tens of thousands of dollars per administration, with some approaching $1,000,000 per year.

Because the out of pocket costs are very high for patients with these rare, severe and chronic conditions, drug manufacturers have created financial assistance programs, which can make the drugs more affordable for members. But application for financial assistance can be complex and frustrating for members, and they may not be able to find out about all the programs for which they may be eligible.

Jon-DeCapua-153x190-(1).jpg Jon DeCapua obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from Kent State University in 2009 and has spent his entire post-college career in the Pharmacy and Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) Industry.

Jon specializes in high-cost drug management, pharmacy trend management and plan design recommendations that improve patient outcomes -- while lowering plan cost.  He has a successful history of building and fostering client and broker relationships, resolving client/member issues and configuring custom plan designs to fit any plan need.  For HSRx, Jon facilitates RFP responses, analyzes PBM pricing, conducts thorough on-site benefit reviews and leads implementation of the Copay Maximizer program.

Peter Beerman brings proven track record of significantly increasing revenues, retaining clients, and successfully launching products to HealthSmartRx Solutions. As Senior Vice President, he is responsible for developing new business opportunities and creating customized solutions to meet client needs.

Peter has more than 30 years of experience in plan-sponsored self-insurance, network leasing and change management. Previously, he was Vice President of Sales, Labor and Trust at UnitedHealthcare, where he established the company in the labor and trust market. He also introduced new products for select third-party administrators and self-insured plans at HealthSmartRx Solutions. Peter has earned sales achievement awards and the Altus Award.

He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
